Greenpoint Gets Neapolitan Style Pizza and It's Off the Hook

We have been anxiously awaiting Paulie Gee's arrival on Greenpoint Avenue. (Since Paloma burned down, that vacant space has haunted us every time we make our way toward the East River.) There is Roberta's in Bushwick (which is great) and Motorino in Williamsburg (also great) along with one million other pizza places in New York - and we have been rewarded for our patience. Paulie Gee's Neapolitan style pizza is excellent. The dough is supple and chewy with crisp, bubbly edges and the toppings are decadent, thoughtful, and LOCAL. The build-out is a vast improvement on the previous interior, the bar is especially cool, and the brick oven was specially built in Italy! And they are serving local favorite items like Manhattan Special coffee soda and spicy sausage from (where else) The Meat Hook for a pizza aptly named "Off the Hook." There are also plans to source ingredients from the Eagle Street Rooftop Farms this summer. According to Serious Eats, while Paulie Gee has been passionately making outstanding pizza in his New Jersey backyard for years, opening this pizza joint is his retirement dream. I am so happy it came true in Greenpoint.
